Fruits follow in May. The up to 1-in. diameter fruits are primarily used for pickling or medicinal purposes. They're also used to make umeboshi, or fermented plums. Shiro-Kaga Apricot performs best in areas with mild winters. It requires 400 chilling hours below 45°F.
